Carlos spent his early career performing in television, film, musical theater, and concert dance. He has been seen on THE DREW CAREY SHOW, THE NANNY, DANCE WITH ME and UPTOWN GIRL, to name a few. Jones has choreographed for Broadway legend André De Shields, SNL Veteran Ellen Cleghorn and television icon Carol Burnett, among others. Regional theater directing and choreography credits include, DON’T BOTHER ME, I CAN’T COPE, A BRIEF HISTORY OF WHITE MUSIC, 4 GUYS NAMED JOSE AND UNA MUJER NAMED MARIA, and HAIRSPRAY. Concert choreography credits include works for Jazz Antiqua Dance and Music Ensemble, Bethune Theaterdanse, and his self-named, Carlos Jones and Company. A Scholar of Jazz Dance, Jones is a contributing author to the book Jazz Dance: A History of the Roots and Branches and is currently co-editing a follow up book titled Rooted Jazz Dance: Africanist Aesthetics and Equity in the Twenty First Century. He has served on faculty at Chapman University, Loyola Marymount, UCLA, and St. Cloud State University before arriving at SUNY College at Buffalo where he is a tenured professor of musical theater and dance, associate dean of the School of Arts and Sciences and coordinator of Africana Studies.
