ALL MUSICALS - ALL THE TIME!
The list of productions below constitutes MusicalFare Theatre's 2018-2019 Season of Musicals for their Mainstage. Other productions at the Premier Cabaret or those in conjunction with Shea's 710 Theatre are not a part of the Subscription Season.
PUMP BOYS AND DINETTES 9/5/18 - 10/7/18 - The 'Pump Boys' sell high octane on Highway 57 in Grand Ole Opry country and the 'Dinettes', Prudie and Rhetta Cupp, run the Double Cupp diner next door. Together they fashion an evening of country, rhythm and blues and rockabilly songs that received unanimous raves on and off-Broadway and a 1982 Tony nomination for best musical. Touching and hilarious stories told with guitars, piano, bass and, yes, kitchen utensils.
CHRISTMAS OVER THE TAVERN 11/14/18 - 12/16/18 - A world premiere musical from acclaimed playwright and Buffalo native, Tom Dudzick, that features an all-new holiday story ABOUT Buffalo’s favorite family, the Pazinskis, from his OVER THE TAVERN series. Christmas 1959 is not very merry for the Pazinskis. Dad is going through a mid-life depression and refuses to buy a Christmas tree. Sister Clarissa is threatening to expel 12-year-old Rudy for performing a blasphemous one-man Nativity Scene where he plays all the characters as Hollywood celebrities and everyone is worried that this may be their last Christmas together as a whole family. It’s a brand new chapter in this WNY tradition!
RAGTIME 2/13/19 - 3/17/19 - Written by the award-winning team of Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens (ONCE ON THIS ISLAND, SEUSSICAL,) and noted playwright Terrence McNally, and based on E.L. Doctorow's distinguished novel, RAGTIME was the winner of the 1998 Tony Awards for Best Score and Book and both the Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for Best Musical and Best Score. Called by TIME Magazine "a triumph for the stage," this acclaimed musical is filled with pageantry, emotion and hope, bursting onto the stage like no other.
LATE IN THE EVENING: THE WORLD ACCORDING TO PAUL SIMON 4/24/19 - 5/26/19 - An exciting world premiere collaboration between musician/actor Zak Ward (BUDDY, RING OF FIRE), choreographer Jon Lehrer and MusicalFare! The music and stories of Paul Simon are front and center with dancers highlighted in featured numbers. Including a six piece band at center stage, this music/dance revue does not try to tell a single story but groups Paul Simon numbers by subject and emotion, highlighting the artistry of one of American music’s greatest storytellers.
FIRST DATE 7/10/19 - 8/11/19 - When blind date newbie Aaron is set up with serial-dater Casey, a casual drink at a busy New York restaurant turns into a hilarious high-stakes dinner. As the date unfolds in real time, the couple quickly finds that they are not alone on this unpredictable evening when other restaurant patrons transform into supportive best friends, manipulative exes and protective parents, who sing and dance them through ice-breakers, appetizers and potential conversational land mines. Can this couple turn what could be a dating disaster into something special before the check arrives?
